Newsletter - May '07 May 2007May again, where does the time go? Just a brief note to fill you in on what’s happening or happened. We recently had an open meeting, April 27th: what a brilliant attendance – really – a very good turn-out. Thanks to everyone and sorry some of you couldn’t make it (sincerely). Welcome to four new members: Lou and Chris Hird and Alain and Lynette Lepage – very pleased to meet you. As it happens there are 2 new French families wanting to become members of the Ballon Association, so hopefully we can match everyone up and we’ll all live happily ever after! Keep your eye on the local press, there’s a wine and wisdom coming up – I’m going for the wine: who’s for the wisdom? It’s happening on Saturday 9th June around 7–7.15pm at the St Michael’s Community Hall. It’s going to be fun. Ross and Beth are trying to encourage some of their school mates to come in an effort to bring some young blood to the event. And….wait for it…Nigel Kent, or Big Nige to those who know him, has offered to put the questions together and be Quiz Master – Nigel will have the final word! Also on this occasion the local press want to come and do a feature on the Twinning with photos etc. so it should be an exiting night. For those of you that have forgotten the cost per ticket will be £5, and because we are limited to numbers you will need to book your requirements early. You can do this by phoning 01526 86**** (Marjorie Richards) or 86**** (Mary Jackson). Whilst writing, if you have anything you can give for a raffle on the night could you please let Marjorie know. Carrying on… the French have confirmed the dates for their visit as Wednesday 31st October to Sunday 4th November inclusive. We still have to finalise the trips out and the entertainment etc. but we’re nearly there. A few things to think about: Mary Jackson suggested a coffee morning with a difference – tables and chairs in the Market Place and perhaps some French music – an accordion player or something similar. The idea is to serve coffee and cream teas etc. We’ll probably need to talk to the Parish Council to seek permission: maybe Terry could help with this one? We’re still thinking about the table top sale and other fund raising schemes, so any ideas please pass them on! And finally a reminder of forthcoming events: Open Meetings: Friday 24th August and 5th October 7.30pm St Michael’s Community Hall AGM: Thursday 12th July 7.30pm St Michael’s Community Hall And then…. ..Annual Picnic: Sunday 15th July 3.30pm Chris and Pete’s lake side venue (tbc)
