Newsletter Feb2008 February 2008The members of the Twinning Association, after recovering from the recent visit of our friends from Ballon, have enjoyed a social evening get together in December, Christmas dinner in January and our first Open Meeting of the year in February. We like to have our Christmas dinner after the event, so to speak, as there is so much to do and so many get-togethers organised just before Christmas its nice to have something to look forward to after the rush. This year, on the recommendation of members of the Billinghay Fire Brigade, we went to The Hume at <placew:ston>South Kyme. It was an excellent decision. The food was good, with a choice of five or six dishes per course, the price was very reasonable and the venue smart but comfortable. We took over the whole of the restaurant behind the glass wall and had a very good evening. At the time of writing this, we haven’t yet held our Open Meeting on 22nd February as the copy date for the Billinghay Times is long before this. However we will be starting to plan our visit to Ballon this year. We will be going early on Saturday 24th May, returning Wednesday night, 28th May. This is during the May half term period. There are some places left and the costs are £100 for adults and £50 for children. Once you arrive in Ballon, your host family will feed and house you and your entertainment is all arranged so there are no further costs. Please see Organisations page for contacts. You do not have to be able to speak French. Ballon is a lovely town on an escarpment overlooking green fields. Like us our French twins are wishing to increase the number of people/families in our twinning. Did you know that we have members in the twinning as far away as Washingborough, Fiskerton, Spilsby and of course, Ruskington and Sleaford. That’s why we are called Billinghay & District. Open Meetings are open to everyone and all members of the twinning, whether committee members or ordinary members will be happy to talk to you about their experiences.
